Kermit – On an adventure with our fantastic Kermit the bus camper!

Meet Kermit! Our pride and joy and a bit of a pet (for lack of anything better). Besides Germany, Italy and France, he also does very well on adventures to the Texel campsites and camping sites in exotic Woerden, Zwolle, Veere and Deventer. All in all, a fantastic addition to the family!

July 2020 we bought this former BAM bus from 2012 and we are still fine-tuning it (ongoing project). We have installed a cozy sideboard, which immediately creates a homely setting and a lot of cupboard space. This way you also create a lovely kitchen counter to cook on. We consciously opted for a mobile cooking appliance that we recently upgraded to the 2cook2pro Cadac version. The sink comes from France and we transformed it ourselves! A new brass tap has recently been installed that works on a pressure pump with a clean water tank and a waste water tank in the cupboard. The vinyl floor, the cozy green (of course) curtains, and the mood lighting create a super cozy atmosphere throughout your holiday while you are cooking with your freshly tapped olive oil from the Italian farmer, for example!

Kermit is well maintained and has a major service every year. For example, he recently got new all-season front tires (Vredestein) with M&S inscription and the snowflake symbol. He is also equipped with a brand new starter battery. So he really drives like a dream, especially with the air conditioning (or heating) and cruise control on. You can really speed along with him, but he drives most economically at around 100 km p/h or less. You can also navigate via the built-in TomTom (Netherlands/Belgium) and you have beeps that help you park. You can also connect your phone via Bluetooth to listen to your own hits and navigate that way. In addition, a new household battery has been installed (100ah from Beaut), to which the pump, the diesel heater/fan and the built-in lights are connected. With the diesel heater you can also heat or ventilate the camper when you are not connected to the power. You can also charge your phone via this battery via a new built-in USB port. On the display (meter) you can see how much power is left in the battery. Kermit has recently also added a handy panel with which you can operate all electrical devices. For safety, extra fuses have been built in and a main switch has also been added! Finally, you can still enter any European city, since it is a Euro emission 5 bus.

Inside there is a lovely (easy) pull-out bed built in of no less than 1.70m by 2.00, with thick comfortable mattresses from Swiss Flex. Under the bed there is also room for a basket. If you travel alone, we can also remove a mattress and you could possibly make a "fixed" bed (170 by 110). The benches are very comfortable. Finally, we have a compost toilet for emergencies. We deliberately did not choose a portopotti, because cleaning it is not such a nice job plus you always have to empty it at a designated dumping place. Since we sometimes like to spend the night in the wild, we opted for this toilet bucket. We did buy a portopotti, so if you prefer that yourself, that is also an option.

As for the camping gear; there are two simple chairs and a table. So you can cook and have a drink outside under the sunshade that you attach to the roof rack with two clicks and put together with two tent poles + guy lines!

Finally, we built the bed quite high, so that with some creativity 2 mountain bikes fit nicely underneath (we unfortunately no longer have them available and you will have to bring them yourself). Moreover, there is enough space left for all kinds of other stuff (badminton rackets, BBQs, frisbee collection, fishing rods, inflatable canoes etc.) Incidentally, Kermit is also equipped with a tow bar, if you prefer to transport your bikes in a different way. Unfortunately, we do not have a bike rack ourselves (because it also makes the bus a bit longer).
