'It's not about the destination, it's about the glory of the ride'
If this is your motto then Carmen is your match! An old lady from 1994 who does a great job when she drives up to 95 km / h.
'Carmen' is a 1994 Volkswagen T4 with alcove. In addition, the camper is slightly longer (60 cm) than the standard Volkswagen campers / T4s. This gives you just a little extra (cupboard) space. Due to the alcove, the roof is high enough to be able to stand in part of the camper (up to approximately 2.10). The camper is 2.60 high.
We have owned the camper since 2018 and have driven it through Spain and Portugal. In addition, we often go on holiday in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria.
We rent out the camper including all the accessories you need for a pleasant camping trip. Everything you need to cook inside, but also a Cadac Skottelbraai to cook outside, good chairs + fold-out table and bed linen. There is also a bicycle carrier on it so that 2 bicycles can be taken along. It's a matter of packing your clothes, toiletries and bikes and you're good to go! There is an awning that you can easily roll out and also an outdoor rug that allows you to sit outside in front of the camper.
The rear seat is easy to fold down so you can sleep downstairs with 2 people (it is cozy, 1.20 wide and 1.90 long). We have a roll-up mattress that you can put on it so that you can lie comfortably. Without this mattress it is on the hard side.
At the top of the alcove there is a lot of space to store things. It is possible to make an extra sleeping place for a child, for example, although we have never tried that ourselves.
In addition, there is plenty of space to store clothes and personal items. There is also a mosquito net and there are panels/curtains to darken the windows.
Carmen has no shower or toilet facilities. Running (cold) water!
The camper is ideal for 1 or 2 people and possibly a baby / toddler. It is not the most luxurious camper and also less authentic than a T2 or T3, but it is a bit in between. Carmen does have the charm of a somewhat older camper with which you should not be in too much of a hurry, and yet also the convenience of a reliable house on wheels with a nice place to sleep and enough space to spend a day indoors.
The camper is over 30 years old, so we are a bit careful with it. But it's a shame not to use her so much that's why we like to rent it out.
