A few years ago we rented a Land Rover Defender with roof tent for the first time in Scotland. It was February; rain, snow and very cold, and it was fantastic. The freedom you can experience and enjoy with a car like this is wonderful. Since then we have been addicted to these cars, bought one ourselves (it really had to be Keswick green...) and would like to share the enthusiasm with others.
The car is equipped for two people. The roof tent is spacious and has a comfortable mattress. In addition to two adults, a child can sleep there. If you want to go on holiday with 4 people, an extra tent must be taken along (can be arranged). It is wonderful to camp in the Netherlands (for example on the camping grounds of staying with the forest ranger of Staatsbosbeheer) and of course to go out to other countries. The car can go to places that you cannot go with other cars or campers. The equipment makes it possible to be away from civilization for a longer period of time, off-grid. Driving on unpaved roads is of course permitted, but it is just like sailing, the experience of the captain determines how seaworthy the boat is. Off-road driving is a separate specialty and if you have no experience with this, it can lead to difficult and unsafe situations. Off-road driving, driving in deep sand and taking steep slopes is not permitted.
The Keswick green Defender has a smooth 2.2 L Td4 diesel engine. It takes some getting used to at first, it drives like a small truck. Really unwind.
The car also drives comfortably on the highway and the later built-in cruise control is nice for somewhat longer distances. The Defender is in excellent technical condition and is maintained by a recognized Land Rover Defender specialist. It is a unique car and very nice to go on the road with for a special experience and adventure.
With the car you get an extensive camping equipment, for 2 or 4 persons. Also an outside stove can be taken, this is very nice and handy to cook on. The roof tent is set up in 10 minutes.
