-If we’re having some uncharacteristically un-British weather, take a canal boat tour. Birmingham has more miles of canals than Venice, and a canal boat tour offers a unique way to explore the city’s industrial past and modern developments. You’ll pass iconic landmarks like the Mailbox and the Gas Street Basin, and get to see the city from a different perspective. With a scarf, gloves, and a hot drink, it’ll be manageable!

Take the Bloody Sunday and Bogside Murals tour to delve into Derry’s turbulent history and understand how its past has influenced the city today. -To dive deeper into Derry's history, visit the Museum of Free Derry, which chronicles the city’s turbulent years between 1968 and 1972. -As mentioned, Lewes has plenty of historical sights to visit. You can head to Lewes Castle, which dates back to the 11th century and offers breathtaking views of the South Downs from its towers. Explore the medieval history, climb the ancient walls, and visit the adjacent Barbican House Museum, which showcases the town's past. You could also visit the beautiful timber-framed Tudor house which was once owned by Anne of Cleves (the fourth wife of Henry VIII).
-Don’t let the cold keep you indoors! Lewes is located at the foot of the stunning South Downs National Park. You can take a scenic hike or leisurely walk along the South Downs Way, enjoy panoramic views of the countryside, and experience the natural beauty of the area.

If you’re going to be cold, you may as well be cold in this magical university town, walking down cobblestone streets with a cup of coffee warming your hands. Cambridge is one of the best weekend breaks from London in the winter months.

-Most of the major sights can be seen on a stroll around town, including King’s College, the Corpus Clock and Cambridge Market Square. Then you can warm up in Fitzbillies, which is renowned for its Chelsea buns.
-Need to get out of the cold for a moment? Head to the Fitzwilliam Museum to explore their huge collection of classic art and artefacts, from Asian ceramics to armour, coins and paintings. They often have unique exhibitions which take a new perspective on art and beauty. They also have a lovely cafe where you can rest your legs.
